Questions you could explore

Original prompts for reflection, not quotations or evidence that the person would answer in a particular way.

A few documented ideas.

These prepared research notes distinguish a public idea from a possible new coaching application. Source references and qualifications travel with the ideas.

Notice the hook before the whole story

Pema uses shenpa to describe the sticky tightening that pulls someone toward a familiar reaction. The point of noticing is not to condemn the feeling. Recognizing that early bodily or mental cue can reveal a moment of choice before blame or avoidance gathers momentum.

In a conversation: Notice one early cue of tightening.

Keep in view: A Buddhist lens, not a diagnosis.

Interrupt a pattern with friendliness

Pema describes recognizing the hook, refraining from habitual response, relaxing with the urge and resolving to continue practicing. Friendliness matters because harsh restraint can become another struggle. Practice develops through repetition and imperfect attempts rather than decisive victory over oneself.

In a conversation: Pause before a habitual response.

Keep in view: Not for unsafe withdrawal.

Do not turn a good meditation into a rule

Pema notes that attachment to a pleasant meditation can make the next ordinary session feel like failure. The practice then becomes chasing one remembered state. Returning to what is actually present loosens that comparison and keeps meditation from becoming another way to judge one’s worth.

In a conversation: Let this session be different.

Keep in view: No required emotional result.

Prepared coverage and limits.

Curated original teaching articles, an authorized public dialogue and a PBS interview on Tibetan Buddhist practice, uncertainty, compassion, shenpa, meditation and everyday reactivity. Nine opened primary pages support twenty concise cards. These are tradition-specific educational interpretations, not universal religious claims, mental-health treatment or access to private teachings. Contemplative exercises are optional and should remain gentle.
